For one night only, this Halloween at LPR Matinee honors the icons who left too soon but whose music, style, and legacy will never be forgotten in a very special spooky pop extravaganza – The Dead Celebrity Ball. What To Expect It’s a Matinée event, so you can expect the normal wild night that ends at 10pm surrounded by a beautiful crowd of seasoned aka Millennial(ish) party people, but for Halloween we have a few extra spooky performances, a costume contest, and surprises. For the Dead Celebrity Ball there will be tricks and treats that will keep you on your toes like a costume contest for the best celebrity resurrection, a photo booth from beyond the grave, drag performances from the underworld, surprise performances and giveaways. Also, we serve pizza & Halloween candy throughout the night included with your ticket. The Dress It’s Halloween weekend, so come dressed in a costume as any dead celebrity or historical figure — be it golden age Hollywood, disco divas, Victorian era royalty, revolutionary war heroes, Egyptian Pharaohs, or even cavemen. Channel their spirit, steal their style, and strut your stuff through the pearly velvet ropes. There will be a costume contest with prizes to be won…so don’t take your costume lightly! The Music The music will mostly be a “Best Of” from Matinee parties, a combo of 70s, 80s, 90s, and 00’s Pop that will flood you with nostalgia and make the hair stand up on your arm. But there will be a very special “Zombie Hour” where — the soundtrack is a non-stop resurrection of the greatest hits by artists who’ve crossed over. From Prince to Amy, MJ to Bowie, Biggie to Whitney it’ll be a power hour of only music from the dearly (and fabulously) departed.

A radical folk artist in the tradition of Woody Guthrie, her infectious melodies and lyrical wit keep listeners rapt while she conjures spirits of vaudeville, campfire singalongs, and punk rock. Blanton and her road-tested band deploy humor, camaraderie, and considerable musical muscle to enroll each audience in a rare vision of hope and solidarity. In addition to writing and performing music, Carsie works as a political organizer and activist. In fall of 2025, she participated in the Global Sumud Flotilla , a direct action to bring humanitarian aid to Gaza by sailboat. In early October, after a month at sea, she was imprisoned in Israel for five days along with hundreds of her comrades. Soon after, Blanton released The Little Flame , a song of solidarity covered widely on social media during her detention. The Little Flame features background vocals from Irish band Ye Vagabonds and Carsie’s Palestinian/New Zealander prison-mate Rana Hamida , and appears on her latest album, The Red Album Vol II . After two decades spent on the road, Blanton has amassed a dedicated fan base and a small menagerie of viral hits, and regularly sells out mid-size venues across the U.S. and Europe. 2026 will find her touring heavily with her own band and in collaboration with Canadian folk-punk rabblerousers The Burning Hell , as well as continuing her organizing work with Artists Against Apartheid, Party for Socialism and Liberation and others. “Beautiful, militant anthems.” – Ken Tucker, NPR’s Fresh Air “Carsie Blanton is fighting fascism with big hooks and an even biggerheart.” – American Songwriter

## Olivia Barton

- Venue: (Le) Poisson Rouge, 158 Bleecker St, New York, NY 10012 ([Google Maps](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=158+Bleecker+St%2C+New+York%2C+NY+10012))
- Run: Nov 8, 2026

Olivia Barton writes songs that walk the line between unfiltered and refined. Musically proficient like Joni Mitchell and Pinegrove, Barton writes music that is emotionally cutting like Sufjan Stevens and Fiona Apple. With reverence for the craft of songwriting, Barton writes and sings like she speaks: unapologetic, yet approachable. As a live performer, Barton is known for quieting a room with just her voice and guitar, turning crowds into confidants. Having shared stages with Lizzy McAlpine, Madi Diaz, Field Medic, Searows, and others, her songs carry what folk music has always carried: emotion, memory, simple truth. Her 2022 album, This is a Good Sign, produced by Collin Pastore and Jake Finch (Lucy Dacus, Ashe), led to a co-write with Lizzy McAlpine on “Older” and an invitation to support McAlpine’s 2023 North American tour. That same year, Barton co-wrote “if i were a fish” with her partner corook and the song reached millions; the New York Times called it “a forgotten track off the Juno soundtrack.” Barton’s latest album, For Myself and For You, was co-produced by Sam Skinner of Pinegrove in Brooklyn throughout 2024 released fall of 2025, and toured in early 2026. Skinner calls Olivia “a true visionary of a songwriter and a force of nature.” Built from full live takes, the studio album is as intimate and energetic as hearing Olivia play in the room with you. Barton recently completed work on a project with frequent collaborator Annika Bennett called Whale Songz. The recent EP, released in summer of 2026, features Leith Ross and Lennon Stella. “I make something permanent out of temporary feelings, public time capsules of my evolving inner life,” Barton says. “I think that’s brave, and I’m glad I’m stupid enough to do it.”

## Trixie Whitley

- Venue: Littlefield, 635 Sackett St, Brooklyn, NY 11217 ([Google Maps](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=635+Sackett+St%2C+Brooklyn%2C+NY+11217))
- Run: Nov 8, 2026

Trixie Whitley has been time-traveling for years now. Looping through the wormholes that bridge past trauma and present joy — dismantling and rebuilding her life through words and music. “Lots of life has happened since I last put out music — endings and new beginnings — which is often not very comfortable,” she says. “But, through it all, I had music.” The result is Folded Time , out TK date on Unday Records, a nine-song LP “about loss and reframing,” she says. “From my relationships to politics, that has seeped throughout the work. The last seven years have really been this reckoning with my own repressed thoughts, who I am as a mother, and how that changes how I see the world.” Whitley — yes, daughter of singer-songwriter Chris Whitley — has been a musician since birth, basically. She was drumming at 10, DJing underground Berlin clubs at 11, and touring Europe as a dancer in her teens. Growing up between New York and Belgium, she left school at 17 and became a full-time musician, touring Daniel Lanois’ band Black Dub, and going solo in 2013. Since then, she’s dropped three LPs and four EPs; collaborated with the likes of Thomas Bartlett and Run The Jewels producer Little Shalimar; and created soundtracks for theater and film director Wim Vandekeybus. Most recently, she released her Dragon of Everything EP in 2024, a rumination “on all of the complexities of being a mother and finding my way in an industry that doesn’t embrace motherhood at all,” she says. Folded Time , then, is the next chapter — an exploration of motherhood, womanhood, girlhood, and all the attendant joys and sorrow they entail. Whitley began work on the record at the Jet Studio in Brussels in the summer of 2024, and continued to hone the tracks the following winter in her apartment in Brooklyn and at the home studio of friend and collaborator Kid Koala (Eric Yick Keung San) in Montreal. “I didn’t really have a very specific map other than I had to listen to my body,” Whitley says. And her body desperately needed drums. Whitley was behind the kit on this record, as well as the bass, guitar, piano, and mic. To round out the louder-than-life vibe, she also brought in Cem Misirlioglu (drums); Stuart Bogie (horns); and guest vocalists Mayteana Morales, Domenica, and Katy Pinke.

The seven-time GRAMMY winner released his critically acclaimed solo debut, Acadie , via Opal/Warner Bros in 1989. The new deal spans a prolific thirty-five year period wherein Lanois released fourteen albums under his own name, including For The Beauty of Wynona (1993), Shine (2003), Rockets (2004*)*, Belladonna (2005) and Flesh And Machine (2014). The joint arrangement encompasses catalog alongside new and unreleased works to be released through 2026 and beyond. Daniel Lanois’ new single “ Grace ” is available now on all streaming platforms. In this evocative reinterpretation of the classic folk hymn, “Amazing Grace,” Lanois’ signature production sets Aaron Neville ’s timeless voice against Brian Blade ’s improvised drumming, creating a poignant meditation on struggle, grace, and redemption — one that feels sonically and emotively expressive of the times we are living through. One of the world’s most influential music makers, Lanois emerged onto the global scene in the 1980s, collaborating with Brian Eno on a series of experimental and groundbreaking ambient albums, culminating in 1983’s Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks . His work in the early 80s with Eno and musicians such as Harold Budd and Jon Hassell ushered in new vistas of sonic possibility, leveraging the studio-as-instrument and employing pioneering production techniques to create immersive worlds of sound. From here, Lanois applied his questing creative spirit into a remarkable series of collaborations, producing timeless albums and commercial high-points with U2 ( The Unforgettable Fire , Joshua Tree , Achtung Baby , All That You Can’t Leave Behind ), Peter Gabriel ( So , Us ), Bob Dylan ( Oh Mercy , Time Out of Mind ), Robbie Robertson ( Robbie Robertson ), Neville Brothers ( Yellow Moon ), Emmylou Harris ( Wrecking Ball ), Willie Nelson ( Teatro ) and Neil Young ( Le Noise ) to name a few. The impact of Lanois’ production work has been vast, echoing for decades through the sound of contemporary popular music. Rolling Stone cited Lanois as “ the most important producer to emerge in the 80s ,” and his signature sound and style have influenced a countless number of artists.

As a child, if you’re lucky, summer afternoons stretch out like a yawn, pool waves are as warm and engulfing as a blanket, the safety of your mother’s arms feels endless. On her new album, Neon Summer Skin , Bedouine, the project of Azniv Korkejian, explores this feeling of safety long before one can fully understand the concept. Written with vivid, honest and intimate imagery after visiting her family in Saudi Arabia, it tells the story of family and upbringing, and mourns the end of her childhood. There is a singular resonance and newfound heft in this music previously unheard in Bedouine’s discography. Bedouine is known for making gentle, lilting folk songs that build fingerpicked guitar melodies into tsunamis of emotion. Her masterful songwriting and timeless melodies have earned her praise from publications like Pitchfork , who said her music “boasts a surreal calm and lived in glow,” and Rolling Stone , who lauded her “humble folk-pop brilliance,” plus an NPR Tiny Desk Concert, and tours with the likes of Fleet Foxes and Father John Misty. As personal as her songs have been, they’ve often built upon universal experiences. The writing here, however, is full of specific memories: a neon swim suit, beads of water dripping down tangled hair, the blood of a lamb, often sacrificed at Syrian weddings, oozing across the pavement. “It was the first time I had the inclination to write a record about one main subject which gave me a clarity and motivation I hadn’t quite had before.” Bedouine started working on the record after a trip to Saudi Arabia to visit her parents. She correctly assumed it would be her last one there because her family was retiring to Armenia. “For my 20s and much of my 30s, I couldn’t sit still,” she says. “I would pack my car and move to a new place. I was so curious about my own independence that it just didn’t occur to me for the longest time to mourn the past. But after that trip, I came home and was so devastated. I couldn’t place the feeling immediately, but as I started writing, I realized I was processing that I wasn’t ready to stop being somebody’s kid.

Upon arriving in the United States for The Tubs’ first tour of the country, frontman Owen Williams told The New Yorker, “We’re here to unite the country. We’re gonna come, like, three times. By that point, I think this place will start healing.” Then, joyously, they did just that, piling into a van and criss-crossing the States, bringing their literary, bleary-eyed, world-weary, night-of-your-life highwire act to the masses when it was needed most. Along the way, they signed to Merge Records, who will release The Tubs’ third full-length album, Hard Life, on September 11, 2026. The Tubs have never lacked for ambition — on Hard Life, theirs is to complicate the Tub-ullar experience. Having perfected their sound across two albums and hundreds of shows, the London based Celtic jangle boyband — Williams (vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass), Dan Lucas (guitar), Taylor Stewart (drums), and Max Warren (bass) — push themselves even further into the shimmering heart of virtuosic indie rock. They’re joined by frequent collaborators Lan McArdle (vocals), George Nicholls (guitar), and Rachel Kenedy (keyboards), all of whom have orbited various Tubs and Gob Nation-adjacent efforts dating back to Joanna Gruesome, but the secret to Hard Life’s lushness is the addition of fiddle player Chris Haigh, an instructor and session musician who left an indelible mark on British pop on Steps’ “5, 6, 7, 8.” Mirroring Williams’ use of trilling on vocal melodies, Haigh’s fiddle shades the vocalist’s rueful croon like a bruise. On “Stoop to Me,” the folkiest, jangliest pop song on the album, Haigh’s licks complement Williams at his most self-deprecating, the lopsided smile of a guy trying not to let on how wounded he is in unrequited love. On album opener and title track “Hard Life,” it’s the sweetness of the ascending fiddle lines in the mix that weds the harshness of Williams’ lyrics to The Tubs’ fist-pumping anthemics. The hard line Williams takes here and elsewhere on Hard Life further troubles one’s idea of a Tubs song. The persona familiar to listeners of Cotton Crown and Dead Meat — to quote Williams, “navel gazing about romantic abjection, London squalor, and the indignities of grief and OCD” — is still present, but so too is a second voice, steelier and more experienced. “The second persona doesn’t have much time for the first,” Williams explains, “often haranguing him for his self-indulgence and immaturity; sometimes fairly, sometimes unfairly.”

The sweeping and cinematic nature of the band’s consistently impressive catalog—inspired in part from Andy Hull and producing partner Robert McDowell’s experience scoring movies, including 2016’s Swiss Army Man and 2019’s The Death Of Dick Long—has continually been synced across film, TV, and commercial campaigns. 2026 marks the 20 year anniversary of the band’s first album, I’m Like a Virgin Losing A Child, and Hull and McDowell will embark on a very short duo performance tour up the west coast playing that album in full, plus many of their greatest hits.

## Diles que no me maten

For Diles que no me maten, every note is a small step into the unknown. The five-piece Mexico City band have always operated on a first-thought, best-thought basis, drawing on a jam-based, krautrock philosophy to craft intricate constructions of wiry art rock spiked with bluesy balladry and poetic mysticism. While their fourth album Escrito en Agua (Writ in Water) is their most consciously crafted and accessible to date, their founding principle of slow, wide-eyed exploration is alive and well. Founded by brothers Raúl (drums) and Gerardo (guitar) Ponce in 2017 in a CDMX scene set to bubble over, Diles bonded over a shared improvisational language that grew more complex and fluid with each revelatory rehearsal and electric live performance. The fiery mix of raw elements that fueled their 2020 debut EP Cayó de su Gloria el Diablo and LP Edificio coalesced into solid-built but shapeshifting entities on their breakout album La Vida de Alguien Más and its free-flowing follow-up Obrigaggi. Together with the Ponces, Andrés Lupone (bass), Jerónimo Elizondo-García (guitar, clarinet), and Jonás Derbez (vocals, saxophone) have crafted a sound that’s as unpredictable as it is distinct. In a makeshift studio space in their hometown’s Santa María La Ribera neighborhood, Diles created Escrito en Agua through a process of intense experimentation and refinement, guided gently by their longtime collaborator turned producer Sebastián Rojas. This setting gave these recordings a scrappy mutability; unencumbered by the hi-fi confines of an official studio, they were free to tinker with their unruly creations, breaking them down and reassembling their best parts in a way they’d never done before. It’s evident from the opening notes of Escrito en Agua that Diles have entered a new chapter. Instrumental intro “Las Noches Que Dormimos en Sillas” (“The Nights We Sleep on Chairs”) was first conceived as a “Goth Duke Ellington arrangement” by Andrés before some technical malfunctions and a guest performance from legendary saxophonist Alain Derbez (Jonás’s father) led the band to realize the song would sound better an octave higher. Thus, its lugubrious tones became less moody and more spiritual. They leaned in, injecting elements of funerary music from Oaxaca’s Sierra Mixe that elevate the song far beyond its playful original premise. The track sets the tone for an album that, while possessing no airs of religiosity, is as transcendent as gospel.

“It clicked for me one day, that the album was going to be about hornets,” explains Sputnik, the mononymous songwriter behind the noise-pop project Weatherday. “It just made sense to me.” Hornet Disaster , Weatherday’s follow-up to their 2019 debut Come in , and spiritual successor to 2022’s collab release Weatherglow , is their most expansive work to date. In Weatherday’s initial bout of inspired writing and recording, they produced over 70 songs for the record, but not before they had a complete, overarching narrative that was coherently tied back to Sputnik’s previous work. Like its predecessor Come in , Weatherday’s Hornet Disaster lurches instantly into a caustic title track. The overture is signature Weatherday — urgent, noisy, erratic, and playful — but also hints at shifts in songwriting and production. Lead single “Angel,” backed with “Heartbeats,” demonstrates this evolution in a snappy, springy emo anthem, while its counterpart calls on longtime influence The Knife in a slinky, downtempo curio that pushes the Weatherday sonic universe in an unexpected direction. The movement, color, and form of hornets are meticulously threaded throughout the album’s nineteen song tracklist, with hectic melody and unpredictable turns giving way to various forays: a tribute to Swedish winter in Weatherday’s first official song in Swedish (“Pulka”); the use of renaissance flute (“Green Tea Seaweed Sea”); and the folktronica experimentalism of third single “Ripped Apart By Hands.” It’s a bustling record with disparate songs each vying for space like wasps in a swarm. It can inspire caution and chaos, but there’s wonder, purpose, and a certain familiarity there, too. Weatherday has extended the knotted, thrashing maximalism of Come in by doubling down with the uncompromised, no-stone-unturned nature of Hornet Disaster . Where Come in was the product of an artist searching for their voice, Hornet Disaster represents the joyful abandon that comes from having found it.

Best known for his five-times platinum hit “Home,” Phillip Phillips has always been interested in making music that allows people to reflect on their life. Growing up in Leesburg, Georgia, Phillip first picked up guitar at age 14 and soon mastered riffs mostly by playing along to his family’s karaoke machine. He took up singing and songwriting as a teenager which led to him forming an acoustic band with his older sister and brother-in-law. With encouragement from his family and friends, he took a break from working in his family’s pawn shop and auditioned for American Idol in summer 2011. After impressing the nation with his stellar vocal control and stage presence, Phillips emerged as the show’s season 11 winner. Premiering the same day he claimed his victory, “Home” marked the most successful coronation song of any Idol winner and the highest-ever debut on Billboard’s Digital Songschart. Soon after his American Idol success, Phillips started working on his first full length album The World From The Side Of The Moon . Released in 2012, this album debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200 and quickly went platinum. Shortly after his success with his debut album, Phillips released Behind The Light , his 2nd full length project, and took it on tour in 2016. Known for his high energy shows, Phillips has toured with superstar artists such as Matt Nathanson, John Mayer, the Goo Goo Dolls and even shared the stage with Bruce Springsteen at the Rock in Rio Festival. Phillips’ 3rd studio album, Collateral , was a work in progress for many years before being released to the public. Phillips joined forces with an eclectic lineup of producers that includes Grammy Award-winner Dave Cobb (Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson), Ryan Hadlock (Ra Ra Riot, Cayucas), and Nathan Chapman (Lady Antebellum, Taylor Swift) to produce what would be his most soulful project yet. Included on Collateral is “Dance With Me,” a song Phillips wrote for his now wife and longtime love, Hannah. “That song was our first dance,” Phillips points out. “During the ceremony I cried like a baby the whole time and she didn’t cry at all, but when “Dance With Me” started there were definitely some tears.”

Through his 54-year career, 3-time Grammy Award winner John Scofield has occasionally detoured from the traditions of straight-ahead jazz, exploring a blend of funk and jazz that has led to some of his most popular projects. In late autumn of 2026, Scofield looks back at many of his now classic fusion groove compositions with Electrospective . Not intending to replicate the earlier fan favorites, he plans instead to revisit them with the seasoned perspective of several decades; culling tunes from his Blue Matter, Uberjam, and AGoGo bands – each responsible for a few recordings – as well as new material in the same vein. Scofield looks forward to teaming up with a stellar band of colleagues, Electrospective will rely on interpretative input from Scofield alum and super funk drummer/producer Adam Deitch (Lettuce), multidimensional Larry Goldings (Scary Goldings, James Taylor) on keyboards, and legendary bassist Oteil Burbridge (Dead & CO., Tedeschi Trucks, Allman Brothers). With this repertoire so frequently (and loudly) requested by audience members, Scofield is glad to have a band that will truly do the music justice.

More than 15 years together, building a grassroots audience with stacked vocal harmonies and collaborative, song-driven Americana, this is American roots music at its broadest and boldest — a melting pot of rock, soul, folk, and pop. Produced by Grammy winner Tucker Martine (The Decemberists. My Morning Jacket), “…this album is the culmination of almost two decades of making music as Fruition,” explains Jay Cobb Anderson. Asked about the mission behind Something More, Kellen Asebroek shares: “We set out to show the world what we’ve learned along the way, both musically and personally, but perhaps more importantly, this album makes a point to be honest about the things we’ve had to UNLEARN. The truth of this album is found in kicking old habits, letting go of control, interrogating our motives, and approaching each session with fearless, open hearts.”

In Appalachia, farmers still practice the ancestral tradition of companion planting. Corn grows tall as a trellis, beans climb the corn, and squash provides the ground cover. Rising Appalachia cultivates a similar symbiosis in their music, where Southern folk traditions, New Orleans swamp culture, and Atlanta’s street spirit strengthen each other. Known for their seamless harmonies, songcatching and storytelling, the band has released ten albums and toured throughout North America, South America, Europe, the Celtic Isles, Australia and beyond — performing everywhere from the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and Red Rocks to NPR’s Tiny Desk. All the while, the band has cultivated a devoted grassroots following traveling to communities big and small by train, horseback, bio-diesel bus and sailboat. Sisters Leah Song and Chloe Smith were raised in Atlanta in a blue collar bohemian family. Their mom was a fiddler, their dad a sculptor. They went to contra dances, wandered the neighborhood forests and had a childhood filled with banjos, harmony singing and other folkways. In her early twenties, while studying art and Indigenous activism in Chiapas, Mexico, Leah returned to her love of folk music. The two sisters then began a wildly creative and successful career that has included busking in New Orleans, traveling with a circus from Southern Italy to Northern Sweden, and collecting songs in Ireland, Bulgaria and Colombia. Rising Appalachia also features the creative musicianship of Duncan Wickel (fiddle, cello), David Brown (upright bass, baritone guitar) and Biko Casini (drums, percussion) — each tradition keepers in their own right.

## Action Bronson & Human Growth Hormone

- Venue: (Le) Poisson Rouge, 158 Bleecker St, New York, NY 10012 ([Google Maps](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=158+Bleecker+St%2C+New+York%2C+NY+10012))

Like all great competitive warriors, Action Bronson uses every perceived slight as fuel to be even better. The rare rapper to marry critical acclaim with a devoted, rabid following, Action Bronson isn’t anyone’s idea of an underdog. And yet, on his brilliant new album, Cocodrillo Turbo, he sets out to prove that his lingual versatility is stronger than it’s ever been, that age has only made him a better rapper, and that anyone still sleeping on him as one of the best MCs on the planet better wake the hell up. “I don’t feel like I’m given the fucking respect that I deserve,” Bronson explains. Cocodrillo Turbo is Bronson demanding that respect. He’s gotten in the reps, constantly refining his poetic flow and relying on the instincts he’s cultivated with over a decade in the game under his belt. Now, sit back and enjoy the show. With his boundless creativity and hustler’s work ethic, Bronson relies almost entirely on his intuitive grasp for rap music on Cocodrillo. The result is an album that is equal parts free-wheeling and tight as a snare drum. “At this point, I treat my songs like paintings. I know what they need,” he explains. “You’ve got to know what it needs to satisfy you. You can keep touching it up forever, but I’ve gotten better at realizing when I’ve captured the moment. That’s it. Then I move on to the next moment.” Cocodrillo is, in this sense, a series of sketched vignettes. Bronson is a storyteller but his songs don’t move linearly. It’s what makes him such a special narrator. There’s “Subzero,” where he raps about dropping a nine in the snow like a long lost Sopranos character before inserting a line about eschewing knives when ripping his bread…Like all men should do. It’s the sort of off-hand comment that has made Bronson equal parts charming and mercurial. With beats from Daringer, Alchemist, and more, Cocodrillo finds Bronson diving further into the psychedelic underbelly of American culture than ever before. He’s a sociologist on two tabs of acid, Slavoj Žižek after a massive blunt. “You’re not going to hear shit on my records that you’ll hear anywhere else,” he explains. “So everything I touch is hand fucking picked and chosen because it pushed me to places I didn’t know existed.”

Music for sleeping and waking, walking and driving, hunting and fishing, for loitering outside a roadhouse on the haunted tundra. Okay in elevators, not great for dinner. On Caveman Wakes Up Friendship’s new album and second for Merge Records, the band’s historically capacious definition of country music grows wider still. Shambolic guitars are offset by flute pads, bleary poetry is set against a Motown rhythm section, a song about Jerry Garcia and First Lady Betty Ford fades out with a drum solo, like if Talk Talk came from a dingy Philadelphia basement, and was fronted by James Tate. Songwriter Dan Wriggins’ ragged baritone cuts through eleven murky, swirling country-rock songs with profound lyrical substance and sincerity. Like an alarm clock incorporated into the edge of a dream, Caveman Wakes Up belongs equally to the conscious and subconscious mind, fraught with background, steeped in reference and experimentation, delivered casually and as a dire warning, dedicated, above all, to music’s creative soul. Over the years, dedication has paid off. Friendship has become a kind of reverse supergroup, wherein the band itself and each individual member is located centrally in an increasingly prominent scene of young folk and country musicians and songwriters. Drummer Michael Cormier O’Leary leads the instrumental collective Hour and, along with bassist Jon Samuels, run Dear Life Records, home to friends and peers who count Friendship as a major influence, including MJ Lenderman, Florry, and Fust. (Samuels also plays lead guitar in MJ Lenderman and the Wind). Guitarist Peter Gill’s band 2nd Grade records prolifically. Wriggins began writing the songs of Caveman Wakes Up on a downtuned classical guitar of Lenderman’s, and finished on a barely-tuned piano in an apartment he shared with Sadurn’s G DeGroot.

- Run: Dec 6, 2026

Composer and performer Zoë Keating has spent the last 20 years exploring the landscape of sounds a string instrument can make. She coaxes sounds out of the very edges of her cello, adeptly layering them into “swoon inducing” (San Francisco Weekly) music that is unclassifiable yet “a distinctive mix of old and new” (National Public Radio). She is known for her use of technology – which she uses to record and sample her cello onstage and in the studio – and for her DIY approach – composing, recording and producing her works without the help of a record label. Born in Canada, Keating started playing the cello when she was eight and went on to pursue electronic music and contemporary composition as part of her Liberal Arts studies at Sarah Lawrence College. After graduation she moved to San Francisco and built a career as an information architect and data analyst while moonlighting as a cellist in rock bands. Keating eventually combined her love of music and technology, using a computer to live-layer her cello and performing for late-night parties in the San Francisco warehouse in which she lived. Keating’s recorded works have achieved a surprising degree of popular ubiquity for a DIY artist. Her self produced albums have several times reached #1 on the iTunes classical charts and spent many months on the Billboard classical charts. Her recordings are used as bumper music for NPR’s Morning Edition, as the theme music to OnBeing, as the thinking- music of the Sherlock Holmes character on CBS Elementary, in HBO’s hit drama White Lotus, in countless documentaries and in tens of thousands of online videos of everything from professional and amateur dance performances to rock climbing and gaming videos. Keating also composes for TV, theater, film and dance. She co-composed, along with Jeff Russo, the score for the HBO movie “Oslo”, which earned them an Emmy Nomination in 2021 for Outstanding Music for a Television Movie. Her latest projects include scores for PBS’s 2022 series “Searching: Our Quest for Meaning in the Age of Science” and the drama “For The Love of a Woman”, by Italian director Guido Chiesa, scheduled for release in 2024. In addition to her recordings, Keating performs to rapt audiences around the world. Each performance is unique as she spontaneously improvises around her pieces, demonstrates how she makes them and tells the stories behind them.

For New York-based singer/songwriter Jackie Evans, music has always been the only option, but Evans only began releasing songs under her own name last year. Her style, often likened to the timeless writing of Carole King, Billy Joel and Sara Bareilles is, in part, the byproduct of years spent taking requests at piano bars. As a gigging musician, Evans has tried it all; from playing standards on cruise ships, to performing at theme parks and majoring in theater. The ease and confidence she carries in live performance has caught the attention of other musicians, leading to collaborations with Vulfpeck, and support slots on tour with Lake Street Dive and Jensen McRae.

Bettye LaVette was hailed by the New York Times as “one of the great soul interpreters of her generation”. She is a song stylist. Her gift is being able to take a song from any genre and making it completely her own. To quote the late, great George Jones, “Bettye is truly a ‘singer’s singer’.” These intimate shows feature Bettye performing songs and telling stories from throughout her 64 year career. Hearing Bettye in this setting, stripped down to just her voice and keyboards, is a very captivating experience. Her career began in 1962, at 16 years old, in Detroit, Michigan. Her first single, My Man-He’s A Lovin’ Man , was on Atlantic Records. Throughout the 60s and 70s, she recorded for several major labels, but was never able to “break through”. She also appeared in the Broadway Musical Bubbling Brown Sugar alongside Honi Coles and Cab Calloway. Since her resurgence in 2000, she has received the R&B Foundation’s Pioneer Award , won several Blues Music Awards , was inducted into both The Blues Hall Of Fame and The R&B Hall Of Fame, received the Legacy Award from the Americana Music Association, and has received 7 Grammy Nominations. According to Steve Jordan, who produced her last three albums: “When Bettye gets a hold of a song, it becomes her song. It’s like she wrote it. Bettye LaVette is like a combination of Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday and Miles Davis.” Now, at 80 years old and in her 64th year in show business, she is one of very few of her peers who were recording during the birth of soul music in the 1960s and is still performing and creating vital recordings today. She is a shining example of what perseverance and determination can bring.

For the past 30 years, James Lavelle has been at the forefront of global club culture. A polymath known as much for his eclectic DJ sets as his production work with UNKLE, Lavelle has been lauded as a highly influential tastemaker and musical curator. His music career began as a DJ in Oxford. Aged just fifteen at the time, Lavelle started his first club night, Mo’ Wax Please, deriving its name from the column of the same name that he regularly contributed to music publication Straight No Chaser. He would later relocate from Oxford to London, where he established the Mo’ Wax label in 1992. Mo’ Wax would soon be at the forefront of trip hop, turntablism and alternative hip-hop. No mere record label however, Lavelle saw it as a platform for his varied creative interests. “I wanted it to be a cultural lifestyle base,” he recalls. “I wanted to create a kind of universe, really. I wanted it to be about art and music, and all those connections in the world from which I was coming. I wanted to have a record label and make films, have a gallery, and create this kind of cultural force, really, in art and music.” Lavelle’s first few years in London saw him taking up a residency at The Fridge for Gilles Peterson’s Talkin’ Loud. The partnership would see the duo starting their own legendary Monday night club session, That’s How It Is, at Bar Rumba on Shaftesbury Avenue and led to Lavelle becoming a major fixture of London’s burgeoning club scene. He soon found himself becoming a much sought after DJ talent across the UK, playing the likes of The Blue Note and Plastic People to Ministry of Sound and Cream. The opening of Fabric in 1999 proved to be a major turning point in his DJ career, leading to Lavelle taking up a residency and starting the iconic FABRICLIVE, which lasted for five years. Alongside his time at Fabric, Lavelle went on to serve as resident at several of the world’s top nightclubs including amongst others, Zouk, Womb, Watergate, and Space. He was one of the first DJs to play China and Eastern Europe and has played in all six inhabited continents and continues to tour as a DJ across the world’s most iconic festivals and venues. 1

Since 1991, the Slackers have released fifteen albums and countless singles, while their 1000s of live performances feed their fans with energetic sets of ecstatic music. The Slackers have been called ‘the Sound of New York’ by the New York Times. They were described by Brooklyn Vegan as a“ clean mix of Ska, Reggae, and Soul that gets dirtied up by Vic Ruggiero’s tough New York accent.’ In April 2022, The Slackers released a new album, “Don’t Let The Sunlight Fool Ya” (Pirates Press) which quickly shot to the top of the US Billboard charts. The first time that a Slackers’ album has charted! Ironically after 30 years as a band, they qualified as a Billboard ‘new artist!’ The Washington Post noted that the Slackers “remain at the top of their game.” The chart topping sales of “Don’t Let The Sunlight Fool Ya” capped a 2 year comeback of the Slackers. When Covid stopped live shows in 2020, the Slackers pivoted to livestreams and made5 full band concerts that were broadcast internationally to an audience of thousands. After the streams, they stayed in the studio and recorded the tunes that became ‘Don’t Let the Sunlight Fool Ya.’ The Slackers capped this come back with a series of frenetic tours in 2022 and 2023. They played everything from clubs to festivals in the USA, Canada, Europe, and Brazil. In 2024, they are currently booking 90 shows. They are also currently working on a 20th anniversary reissue of their classic album, ‘Close My Eyes’ for September and on a new single of original music for October.

Unexpectedly, in the spring of 2025, the Amazon show Reacher went deep into the Mondo Cozmo catalog and used his 2016 song “Shine” as the closing song of the season. “Shine” caught fire, instantly topping several charts, and served as a lightning bolt to the singer-songwriter’s soul. After seeing the overwhelmingly positive response, Ostrander had a “light-bulb moment” and saw what people wanted and expected of him as an artist. And he got to work. Spurred by that, he went on a writing hot streak. The first to emerge from this period was “Sweet Forever,” which Ostrander wrote in honor of his late dog, Cozmo. The heartfelt tune, which was written on piano, set the lyrical tone for what was to come. “I wanted to write about loss without letting the song feel weighed down by it, something uplifting, almost like a church hymn,” he says of the song. In just two weeks, Ostrander wrote 13 additional songs that reflected the raw emotion of dealing with life and loss in his personal life. Most of those comprise Sweet Forever , which is set for release on November 20, 2026, and serves as a return to his rockin’ roots. As he painstakingly went through what he’d written in that span, a period where he says he was firing on all cylinders, Ostrander called upon his pal, Butch Vig, for advice. He sent songs to the legendary producer and Garbage drummer, who in turn returned with notes on what he’d heard. “At one point, he called to encourage me to push myself,” Ostrander recalls. “He doesn’t normally call; we usually just text. He was stern and direct. I think he wanted me to hear it in his voice. I took this as a sign that I was onto something. It really encouraged me.” As the songs came together, Ostrander called upon his buddies from his native Philadelphia to join him as he worked out the songs. These weren’t just pals from the neighborhood: they were members of The Cobbs, the major-label-signed outfit that taught a teenage Ostrander what it meant to be in a band. The creative energy between the musicians was as if time hadn’t passed. Over the span of a few weeks in Ostrander’s Napa hideout, they knocked out the songs that would make up the album, capturing a raw, powerful rock sound. “These dudes have a way of playing that is so singular and special,” he says. They play with heart rather than technique. It’s all about feel for them.”

Jean-Michel Blais was ready to make an epic. mirador , the pianist-composer’s fourth album, finds the Montrealer turning his gaze onto a wondrous world—exchanging contemporary minimalism for a light and generous maximalism . It’s an odyssey that spans choirs, strings and the music of the Andes, from Spanish caves to Estonian forests and all the way back to the basement in Nicolet, Québec, where Blais first imagined adventures. After 375 million streams and the biggest concerts of his life, the origins of mirador were remembrances from childhood. As a musical kid—and, even if he wasn’t fully aware of these things yet, as a queer person, with Tourette’s—Blais’ basement was his imaginary lookout, his “mirador,” from which he could dream the world. There, he’d browse in wonder through a Larousse encyclopedia; he’d play with the family’s cheap Hammond organ and endlessly replay the same cassettes. For 2022’s aubades, Blais had begun experimenting with orchestration. Now, he was drawn to the promise of the human voice—of singing as “pure instrument.” Working from his apartment’s flimsy kitchen island, Blais conceived a 12-part chorus, without lyrics. Soon, with help from William Brittelle (LA Philharmonic, The National), he had assembled a choir of baroque singers—and then added a string quartet of his friends. Composing this material “unleashed something,” Blais says. One of his prized childhood tapes had been a bootleg of music from the Andes, recorded off the radio. His parents, who were amateur ballroom dancers, had taught their son to dance the salsa, the mambo, the cha-cha. He had taught himself Spanish—and was so moved by his first visit to Central America that he wanted to quit the music conservatory and give all his possessions away. Throughout Blais’ twenties, he made visits to Nicaragua, Guatemala and Argentina, falling in love with traditional Andean folksong, especially artists like Los Kjarkas and Charijayac. Now, Blais enlisted Tulio Velazco Villagra, a Montrealer who grew up on the shores of Lake Titicaca—and a master of Andean instruments like the zampoña. Elsewhere, on tracks like “laulasmaa,” he was inspired by encounters with composer Arvo Pärt during a residency in Estonia. Slowly, mirador became like turning the pages of a storybook—traveling through time, crisscrossing the globe, drawing on influences from Ariel Ramirez to TLC, and Beethoven to Portishead.

“Flower In a Stained Glass Window,” is one of William Parker’s deeply affecting works brought forth by the essence of Dr. Martin Luther King. Here, the vision is of MLK as a seminary student, looking through a stained-glass window, hearing the words of Mahatma Gandhi, Henry Stephens Salt and Henry David Thoreau; the message being social and political justice and equality for all human beings. Imagine it is April 4, 1968. A dying Dr. King’s spirit leaves his body. On the way home, it encounters Tasunke Witko the Lakota Sioux leader who was rushing to the scene to bring Dr. King back to life through music, sounds, and movement. Instead of reminiscing about the past they talk about how revolution must come from within. Freedom cannot be handed out. It is already inside of us. Parker has pulled together a characteristically large-tent group of idiosyncratic performers ranging from the operatic singers Alicia Hall Moran and AnnMarie Sandy to Argentinian drummer Juan Pablo Carletti to veteran New York singer & sound artist Ellen Christi to Cuban trumpeter Diego Hedez . His cast of musical associates will bring “Flower..” and other works for Dr. King to life in an extended and mixed program including interludes of spoken word, poetry and small and large ensembles. William Parker is a composer, bassist and multi-instrumentalist, an author and educator who has recorded over 40 albums as a leader that feature a range of concepts, and ensembles from solo bass, quartets, sextets, large ensembles such as the Little Huey Creative Music Orchestra, as well as special projects such as The Essence Of Ellington and The Inside Songs of Curtis Mayfield. He has composed music for The Wroclaw Symphony Orchestra as well as host of commissions by large and small ensembles. He has composed music and librettos for numerous multi-media operas such as Trail of Tears, Vision Peace and Battle Cries, Mass for the Healing World in addition to hundreds of pieces of vocal music. All of Parker’s music incorporates his concept of Universal Tonality. They all include improvisational languages and possibilities.

It’s been an intense but rewarding few years for Shortall and his corto.alto project (the stage name a nod to his Irish-Spanish heritage, translating as “short.tall” in Spanish). The release of his debut album ‘Bad With Names’ saw him nominated for the 2024 Mercury Music Prize – alongside fellow Scot and now label-mate Barry Can’t Swim and the likes of Charli xcx, Ghetts, Beth Gibbons (Portishead), Nia Archives, CMAT and more – and saw him booked to play hundreds of shows across the world, including high-profile festival performances and a sold-out UK tour that featured his own personally curated 2000-capacity “Made In Glasgow” mini-festival at the city’s legendary Barrowlands Ballroom venue. The music he makes as corto.alto is never easily categorised. It leans as much on his formal studies at the prestigious Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, as on his time spent as part of the burgeoning and fertile music scene in Glasgow; incorporating an eclectic mix of influences that draw as much on his affinity with club-culture and all its forms of Electronic Music, or to his love of classic Hip-Hop, Soul and Funk. His 2024 album ‘30/108’ saw him freely blend genre, tempo and instrumentation across 30 tracks – one released each day of the month, drawn from a pool of 108 demos and accompanied by live performance videos – showcasing his flair for fast-thinking creativity, innovation and improvisation over a more rigid studio approach. Exploring the fertile ground between live instrumentation and electronic productions and sound design is also a cornerstone of corto.alto’s blistering live shows that – along with handling bass, synth, trombone and effects – sees him turn band-leader, amongst his crew of hyper-talented musicians; all close friends and frequent collaborators. It’s this fresh outlook and a hunger to subvert expectations that sets Shortall apart, winning him a new generation of music fans unbeholden to any one scene, alongside champions across radio and media like Gilles Peterson, Sian Eleri, Jamz Supernova, Deb Grant, KCRW and many more.

James Felice’s sense of home is never out of reach, even as he brashly squares up with that relentless cosmic indifference. In his sweeping new album Homeworld Blue , Felice’s masterful artistry is on full display with expansive orchestral production and a depth of writing that makes even visceral Biblical imagery feel effortless. The charge, it seems, in the grandeur, is an urgent reminder that Felice states in the opening track, “When you leave, you’re not going home.” Home is right here. “I look for warmth and hopefulness in a world that is overwhelmingly dark and brutal,” Felice explains. “It may have a fatalistic impersonal twirl to it, but we get to map our meaning onto this life. I find that to be so beautiful, and so interesting—all of us small people and our petty concerns. There’s a lot of beauty to find.” There is certainly no shortage of beauty to be found on the album. Recorded in Omaha, Nebraska, with Nate Walcott of Bright Eyes at the producer’s helm, Homeworld Blue is a magnificent and aspirational work of art that accomplishes everything it sets out to do. Its lush horns, intricate strings, pounding pianos, and authoritative vocal deliveries are immediately evocative, while one gets the sense you could hear something new on every listen. Felice is at the top of his game after a lifetime of preparation. Felice is adept at conveying cosmic meaning in seemingly simple forms—he has twenty years of experience in acclaimed folk band The Felice Brothers and is the photographer behind hundreds of intimate images of insects—but he knew from the beginning of this project that his artistic approach to Homeworld Blue would be different. In 2022, when much of life for a career touring musician was still shuttered, Felice climbed the stairs to his attic, where he’d set up a minimal home studio, and began writing feverishly. “I wrote all day and all night,” he said. “I wrote dozens of songs for weeks on end. I pictured a big record, even in the early stages. I imagined orchestral parts, and I knew I wanted the record to have a real musical gravity.” Felice was honest about executing the scope of the album. “I worked for months. I felt a drive to expand my horizons when so much of life was limited in the Covid years. I had the time and inclination to push myself. I had huge ideas, but I wasn’t completely sure how to get them across to people. I was reaching beyond my grasp and hoping someone would be there to catch the rope.”

Odezenne have just announced their new album DOULA, spearheaded by the single “Hey Joe” that was unveiled as a surprise on their socials, away from the typical music promo circuit. This is what the Odezenne method is all about: a special bond forged with their fans since 2008, step by step, discreetly. A kind of mutual trust that has filled every venue in France, and given the band full control over their creativity. After selling-out the Unplugged tour in just a few minutes, and enjoying a so-called break, Odezenne plugged in the gear and their two microphones sooner than expected. Titled “Doula” (we’re not quite sure why), it’s precisely on stage that we may have the beginning of an answer (or not). With only a dozen shows in France, do not miss the chance to experience the band live, as rumour has it that it’s quite an experience.

Everyone Asked About You sprung forth from Little Rock, Arkansas’ vibrant mid-90’s DIY punk and emo scene in 1996. High school friends Collins Kilgore, Chris Sheppard, and Lee Buford would jam at Buford’s family home between sessions of MarioKart64 and Goldeneye. As actual songs began coming to fruition, Hannah Vogan joined on vocals. The first practice room was too small for any other members so the band progressed without a bass player, and the first three singles were written and recorded as a four piece. In 1998 Matt Bradley joined the band on bass; John Beachboard joined a year later on synth and keyboard. The Let’s Be Enemies LP and subsequent tour in 1999 were a product of the six piece band. Steeped in the sounds of Midwest emo and 90’s indie rock, EAAY wrote and recorded music that reflect the straightforward and intense feeling of a teenager experiencing adult emotions for the first time. Longing, first love, self-realization, the drudgery of getting older were all fodder for these teens. In 2022 The Numero Group managed to wrangle the far-flung members of Everyone Asked About You in order to remaster and reissue their remarkably rare catalog both digitally and physically.

In Fall 2024, Reeder shared Smithereens , an album of sharp-witted, deeply human songs that reaffirmed his reputation as one of folk’s most original voices. After two sold-out nights in Nashville during AmericanaFest, he and Peggy embarked on a sold-out West Coast tour that spring. Last summer’s spotlight came at the Newport Folk Festival, where Reeder and Peggy joined Jack Antonoff for a surprise appearance during his Ally Coalition Talent Show set. Their heartfelt rendition of “Maybe” also featured a chorus of special guests including Waxahatchee and Weyes Blood, adding a collaborative moment to an already star-studded evening. That guest-filled set also included unforgettable appearances by Hayley Williams, Jeff Tweedy, Rufus Wainwright, Maren Morris, and more—placing Reeder squarely in the company of some of folk and indie’s most revered artists. Signed personally by the late John Prine, Reeder remains the longest-running artist on Oh Boy Records, the legendary label Prine founded. As Romare, Archie Fairhurst’s working practice is rooted in collage, building vivid new forms out of existing material. Playful and immediate, but also deeply researched and compelling, his albums and performances reaching back to 2012 unfurl as a patchwork of inspirations and obsessive lines of enquiry made up of a global panoply of source material. The clue is in the name – Fairhurst called himself Romare in tribute to Romare Bearden, the lauded American multi-disciplinary artist most renowned for his incisive collages. In Bearden’s process Fairhurst saw a way to approach the infinite pool of electronic music production, channelling his wealth of music knowledge into creating music from existing sonic material and bedding themes into his juxtapositions for a more considered approach to sampling. No music lover sticks on one sound their whole lives, and so naturally Fairhurst’s areas of focus have evolved over time from the breakout impact of his 2012 debut on Black Acre, Meditations On Afrocentrism , through a run of albums on Ninja Tune reaching up to 2020’s reflection on place and belonging, Home . Projections is a direct homage to Bearden’s work, and the Love Songs releases draw on the rich seam of romantic music as a jump-off point. Having lived a nomadic life himself growing up, his source material has moved around over time, but increasingly the sampling becomes more opaque and enmeshed within other instrumentation which rounds out the Romare sound. 2022’s Fantasy expands on that idea with a more abstract approach, folding elements from 1970s fantasy cinema into his distinctive strain of rhythmic, off-centre electronica and heralding the start of his own label, You See. For all the considered concepts and unusual arrangements, Romare’s music is dance music at heart, and it remains a natural transplant into the live and club environment. At times Fairhurst has pulled together a full line-up to render his music on stage – something of a call back to his roots playing guitar and drums in bands – but elsewhere he’s at home sequencing and arranging his music solo, re-moulding album material in the moment with the flexibility which dance music so often requires. Equally, he has DJ’d prolifically around the world with an omnivorous approach which serves as a logical extension of his studio craft, balancing hidden corners of historical investigation with the kinetic impulse of modern club music.

Born on May 4, 1988, in the serene hills of Emmental, Switzerland, Jodok Vuille didn’t just grow up on an organic farm — he grew up surrounded by rhythm, nature, and silence. It was in this quiet simplicity that his passion for music was born. At the age of six, he picked up his first cello… and never put it down. Encouraged by his family and mentors who quickly noticed his innate musicality, Jodok pursued formal training and earned his Bachelor’s degree at the Lucerne University of Music in 2011. Determined to deepen his artistry, he went on to complete two Master’s degrees, earning his coveted concert diploma. But long before graduation, he had already done something few classical musicians ever dared—he built his own cello by hand. That instrument, crafted in 2006/07, still sings under his fingertips today. For years, Jodok toured across Europe as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral performer, and teacher. But a turning point came when he began sharing his musical soul with the world through social media. Performing barefoot in breathtaking natural landscapes, merging cinematic visuals with classical and modern cello covers, he tapped into something deeper—emotion beyond borders. Under the name “JODOKCELLO”, his art exploded online. With over 13 million followers across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook, Jodok became one of Switzerland’s most celebrated content creators—a global musician who brought the cello to Gen Z and beyond. His journey led him to collaborate with household names like Mercedes-Benz, Swatch Group, and FC Barcelona, and to share the stage—virtually and physically—with stars like Alan Walker, IL VOLO, Lindsey Stirling, Teddy Swims, Il Divo, Placido Domingo Jr. and many more. The Qatari royal family personally invited him to perform in Doha, and in 2024, he was honored with the World Influencer Award in Cannes. But Jodok is more than a viral phenomenon. He’s a visionary—a modern-day bard who brings classical music to the people, without filters or pretension. Every day, his music is streamed millions of times by fans across the globe, each note carrying the message he lives by: “Music is not just sound. It’s connection. It’s presence. It’s truth.” And as he walks barefoot—sometimes across mountains, sometimes across world stages—he carries with him the spirit of the Alps, the honesty of the earth, and the soul of a cello that was never meant to be locked inside concert halls.

Named after his leap-year birthday, Leap Life is an expansive, genre-defying work shaped by voice, rhythm and intuition. Moving between spoken word, jazz, hip-hop, ambient composition and ceremonial sound, the album finds Williams continuing his decades-long practice of using art as a transformative force. With ‘Leap Life,’ Williams expands the definition of what music itself can be. For nearly three decades, Williams has occupied a singular place in Black culture, resisting the confines of genre across music, literature and film to use art as a transformative device. He starred in Sinners which earned a record-breaking 16 Academy Award nominations; co-wrote and starred in the Sundance and Cannes award-winning SLAM , directed Neptune Frost , and has released numerous albums, books and multidisciplinary works. Leap Life includes contributions from Carlos Niño, Robert Del Naja (Massive Attack), Moor Mother, Kamasi Washington, Georgia Anne Muldrow and Surya Botofasina.

Over six unique and very personal studio albums, Jake Xerxes Fussell has found his musical future by reimagining, reorchestrating, and reunifying the past. By combining different traditional music sources in a completely original way, he routinely creates fresh works of art that are at once rooted in tradition and ingeniously modern. “It starts at a very intuitive level, it has to be natural in order for it to succeed,” Fussell explains. “I’ll really get into a song and feel like I hear something in there like a melody, a particular phrase, a chorus, and I feel like ‘I could use that’ and one thing leads to another.” It’s Fussell’s inspired intuition that remakes a classic American folk song like “Rock Island Line”—the first single from his latest album The Old Beloved Path —into something that still rings with inherent wisdom but is completely his own. An accomplished fingerpicker on guitar who’s also blessed with a smooth baritone voice that effortlessly exudes the gravitas his creations demand, he says that in the past he might have avoided a song like “Rock Island Line” because it seemed too commonplace to him—too many folksingers had already done it. This touchstone of the well-known fabric of American folk music, “didn’t really need my interpretation.” But after listening again to the recording of this train song by British skiffler Lonnie Donegan , something about the incantation of the chorus struck a chord. In typical Fussell fashion, his remarkable ear and intellect took over. “The song struck me as very beautiful, but just singing the verses wasn’t working for me. I couldn’t relate,” he says looking back. “So, I wound up putting it together with an old English nursery rhyme that I had been kicking around. “ Wire, briar, limberlock /How many geese is in our flock?” and “If you want to ride you got to ride it like you’re flyin, get your ticket at the station on the Rock Island Line. ” Marrying those two things, I felt like something worked, it felt like a song to me.”

In today’s fast-paced mid-apocalyptic world it can feel like a waste of time to speak about time at all. Why dwell on the past when we could just live in the present because the future won’t shut up about how bad it’s going to be? But with This is the Kit aka Kate Stables (songwriter / banjo strummer / pinhole camera lover / Winchester UK born Paris dweller), we’re going to have to give time just a modicum of consideration. Because not only is Kate still here and making albums of cataclysmic honesty and welcoming tonal embraces, they are continuing to grow, which is probably the only smart way to move forward through time. This Is The Kit’s music places companionship at a premium, so being welcomed into its space feels like an obvious privilege, on record and in concert hall with her stellar supporting cast of Rozi Plain (bass), Jamie Whitby-Coles (drums) and Neil Smith (guitar). And at this current point in our confusing history, continuing to be here at all, to stand tall and make music to gather to, that’s a heroic act. Joyful survival as an act of time-wasting, I’ll take that any day of the week. Look to This Is The Kit to spend at least one day of your week this year, I guarantee it will be time well wasted.

The balance of mystery and familiarity has been central to The Felice Brothers’ identity ever since they first emerged from the Hudson Valley nearly two decades ago with a gloriously ramshackle sound that drew on everything from Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan to Walt Whitman and Flannery O’Connor. In just a few short years, the group went from busking on subway platforms and sidewalks in New York City to playing Radio City Music Hall with Bright Eyes and appearing everywhere from the Newport Folk Festival to Levon Helm’s Midnight Ramble. Beginning with 2007’s Tonight At The Arizona, the band helped pave the way for the modern folk revival, while at the same time challenging its boundaries and conventions with bold sonic experimentation and unyielding integrity. The New York Times likened their music to “the rootsy mysticism of the Band,” while Rolling Stone praised the “scrappiness” of their “folk-rock noir,” and The Guardian hailed their songs as “impeccably crafted, with literary-minded lyrics that are both playful and profound.” Over the course of nine studio albums, the group shared bills with everyone from Old Crow Medicine Show to Mumford & Sons, took their intoxicating live show to Coachella, Bonnaroo, Outside Lands, and countless other festivals across the US and Europe, and backed up Conor Oberst extensively in the studio and on the road.

- Venue: (Le) Poisson Rouge, 158 Bleecker St, New York, NY 10012 ([Google Maps](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=158+Bleecker+St%2C+New+York%2C+NY+10012))
- Run: Apr 2, 2027

Eternity Shrugs begins with an act of trespass. At a party, Helena Deland slips toward the edge of the room; no one sees her as she eyes a notebook which belongs to the party’s host. She insists she would never read it, then lets herself imagine being caught, only to learn that its owner had wanted to be discovered all along. Deland occupies both sides of the fantasy: the person reading and the person longing to be read. The journal becomes a mirror of songwriting: private processing made public and left to the interpretations of strangers. Across eleven intimate scenes, the album traces the desire to see into another person’s inner life and to be seen in return. Eternity Shrugs , Deland’s third solo album, follows the electronic density of Someone New (2020) and the grief-shadowed folk of Goodnight Summerland (2023). Across them, the Montreal songwriter has traced what passes, often unnoticed, between people. Here, she asks how those fleeting exchanges can become something that lasts. Recorded in rural Quebec in bursts over four seasons, Eternity Shrugs was produced by Deland with longtime bandmates Francis Ledoux and Alexandre Larin, who also engineered and mixed it, as well as musicians Lysandre Ménard and Cedric Martel who have played with the band for years. Piano, bass, organ, Rhodes, viola, and woodwinds gather around Deland’s voice and guitar in patient arrangements anchored by finely textured percussion; the songs can feel spare one moment and subtly ornate the next. Nearing the record’s centre, the piano-lit “Room” concerns an external voice addressing Deland in the second person, a recurring device through which the album’s characters seem to speak back to their author. Deland’s close, unhurried delivery and the song’s suspended hush faintly recall Sibylle Baier or Jessica Pratt. Denial keeps her moving while intuition gathers like a premonition. She runs toward a space where she might process what is happening, asking an imagined companion to name it. In “Great Dreams,” over five-minutes, the album blooms around a meteor shower, an easy silence, and a body listening with all its senses. Its 1960s-era strings and bass line widen into cinema, with a glance toward Lee Hazlewood, while Montreal contemporary Cindy Lee flickers at the edge of the frame. Deland imagines the album’s palette in browns: wood, leather, smoke. Warm and inhabited, the music never entirely settles.

I. In New York City on his thirteenth birthday, planes fell from the sky and crashed into the World Trade Center. This had nothing to do with Alex Cameron. He wasn’t there. He was in Australia. By the time the planes hit, it wasn’t even 9/11 anymore. It was 9/12. This has been the secret rhythm of his art. One day ahead of a most terrible, but inevitable truth. II. Alex Cameron’s new album is called “Late to Set.” “Late to Set” was born of 9 forgotten long form screenplays written between the year 2022 and 2025. Rejected by the studios, lost to the LA wildfires, the charred remains fragmented and saved in songs of deep confusion and regret. III. “Late to Set” is Al’s fifth album. Production credits include Mark Perkins, Zach Dawes and Maxim Ludwig among others. IV. Al once told me that a lie is never funny, but the truth is always funny. V. The album was completed on an avocado ranch in California after LA started burning in January 2025. VI. This is the world our fathers feared. “What a joy!” says Al. VII. The dissection of art is murder. Vivisection is the dissection of something while it’s still alive. You do that to something you don’t believe has a soul. VIII. REDACTED IX. Some lines, couplets and quatrains “I put on a tonne of weight/For a role I didn’t get/Aye/Now I’m always late for set” “You 3D print a guillotine/And then you tear the statue down” “Every puddle needs a drop of rain/Everybody needs a little pain” “I ordered a hooker to my home/And I yelled at my family/I have seen the childhood drain/From my own son’s face” “Jesus never had no doctor/He never had Covid-19/He never voted for Obama/And he never had no vaccine” “I’ve been selling your location for cash” “I am a violent man” X. I once read a book called Demonic Males: Apes and the Origins of Human Violence by Dale Peterson and Richard Wrangham. It’s about the differences between bonobos and chimpanzees. If you throw an empty cardboard box into a room full of bonobos, they’ll all fuck each other silly and generously share the box. If you throw that same box into a room full of chimps, they’ll kill and kill and kill until the last one gets the box. We share 99% of our DNA with both. Al once told me that a lie is never funny, but the truth is always funny.

Kali Malone presents Burning Song, her new album for pipe organ, cello and guitar featuring Lucy Railton and Stephen O’Malley. The program also includes select compositions from Malone’s vast organ discography. Burning Song, Malone’s first new album of solo compositions since early 2024’s All Life Long, represents a transformation in her compositional strategy towards a process that is more intuitive and direct. The music moves through endings and beginnings, reflection and foresight, hovering in the moment just before understanding, where revelation lives. Feeling supersedes matrices, as each piece proceeds linearly, connected to one another by subtle bridging tones. She is joined by Lucy Railton on cello and Stephen O’Malley on acoustic guitar, the same trio that honed a profound connection based on deep listening through the development of Malone’s work Does Spring Hide Its Joy. Kali Malone’s music reminds the listener that spectacle is felt in the chest. Its otherworldliness, represented by its scale, duration, and presentation, activates intimately held feelings of wonder and insight. Here is a space where sound can unlock a state of introspection and unwavering tenderness. Chord follows chord, each in slow succession, emerging like stones of various shades and shapes on a winding path. The trio moves as one, stepwise, through passages that are alternately ambiguous and radiant, at times triumphant as the tones rise towards the organ’s upper register. By discarding canon form, which has dominated much of her organ work, there is a clear sense of freedom that allows these pieces to unfold more gradually and speak more declaratively than ever before.

Recorded in Brooklyn with visionary producer Philip Weinrobe (Adrianne Lenker, Hand Habits), FAKE MOON reflects a more experimental, collaborative approach. With a new album on the horizon, cleopatrick’s recently-released song “WHAAT” marks a return to the heavy riffs and distortion of BUMMER and the band’s 2025 SCRAP EP. Their unique style blends the rebellious spirit and aesthetic of the Gainsbourg and Bardot era with contemporary garage and psychedelic sounds. Singing in French & English and collaborating with a diverse array of artists, The Limiñanas have a unique ability to distill the cachet of a nostalgic, highly cinematic era while revisiting it through a modern lens.

Rolling Stone has called Miko Marks ’ voice a “marvelous instrument that imbues each song with a kind of hard-won authority.” Across a career defined by resilience, reinvention, and a refusal to let the music industry dictate where she belongs, Marks has built a singular musical identity rooted in country, gospel, blues, and soul. Born and raised in Flint, Michigan, she is a granddaughter of the Great Migration whose Southern family roots and musical upbringing continue to inform her work. “Blues is a part of who I am,” Marks says. “It’s woven into my upbringing, my experiences, and my musical journey.” On October 30, Marks will release Hell Or High Water , her first blues album, via Redtone Records. Produced by longtime collaborator Justin Phipps and written by Marks and Phipps, the album emerged from a period of profound personal change, including the end of Marks’ 29-year marriage and the beginning of her journey with sobriety. Through songs confronting loss, grief, injustice, and uncertainty, Marks holds fiercely to hope, healing, and the joy she has found on the other side. “These songs acknowledge the darkness without surrendering to it,” she says. After a 14-year break from recording, Marks returned with Our Country in 2021, followed by 2022’s Feel Like Going Home , which reached the Top 10 on the Americana charts. She has since performed multiple times at the Grand Ole Opry, appeared at Stagecoach, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, MerleFest, and Ottawa Bluesfest, and shared stages with Tedeschi Trucks Band, Little Feat, The War and Treaty, and more.

Formed in New England in 1996 by Toby Driver, maudlin of the Well emerged from the underground metal scene with a sound that seemed to exist somewhere outside the boundaries of genre. Drawing from death metal, jazz, psychedelia, classical music, and experimental rock, the band developed an intensely atmospheric and shape-shifting approach to songwriting, moving freely between crushing heaviness and moments of startling fragility and beauty. After releasing a series of demos and albums throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, maudlin of the Well became known for music that was unusually ambitious, strange, and difficult to categorize. Their two landmark albums, Bath and Leaving Your Body Map , originally released as a companion pair in 2001, have since developed a devoted following and are regarded as singular works of experimental metal. Having played only 13 gigs during the band’s original lifetime, maudlin of the Well dissolved in the early 2000s, with its members going on to pursue a variety of musical projects. Driver subsequently founded Kayo Dot and continued working as a composer and multi-instrumentalist, while maudlin of the Well’s music continued to find new listeners and exert an influence far beyond the scene in which it originated. In 2015, maudlin of the Well performed a one-time-only reunion show in New York City as a special part of Driver’s composer retrospective at the Stone’s original location on the Lower East Side. Lines stretched around the block, offering a striking demonstration of how far the band’s music had traveled and how much its impact had grown beyond what anyone could have anticipated in the earliest days of the band. This year, maudlin of the Well reunites once again for its 30th anniversary, bringing together the original members for a special live performance. But this time, the reunion marks not only a return to the stage, but a return to creating new music: the band is currently recording its first new album in almost two decades, made possible by an exceptionally successful Kickstarter campaign that demonstrated the enduring enthusiasm of its audience.
