Curated by Don Wagner, a member of the Mannes Board of Governors , this concert explores the lives and music of five remarkable yet largely overlooked composers of the Tchaikovsky/Rachmaninoff era: Anton Rubinstein, Anton Arensky, Xaver Scharwenka, Georgy Catoire, and Sergei Bortkiewicz. Each had a distinctive voice and was a major figure in the musical life of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, yet their music has largely disappeared from today's concert repertoire. *Mannes and the Mannes Sounds Festival are proudly supported by the generosity of people like you.
