Hi — I’m Steve Bronder, and I run this site (the NYC Play Calendar) as a personal project. This page explains the site’s analytics, venue suggestions, map tile requests, and locally saved itineraries. I do not sell your data.

## What this site collects

If you click **“Gosh I love cookies (Accept)”** on the consent banner, the site loads Google Analytics 4, which collects:

- The pages you visit on this site and how long you spent on them
- Roughly where you are (city level, derived from your IP address — the IP itself is anonymized before it reaches Google)
- Your device type, browser, and operating system
- The site that referred you here, if any

If you click **“Gosh I hate cookies (Reject)”**, none of the above is collected. Google Analytics still receives an anonymous, cookie-less “ping” so I can count total visits in aggregate, but nothing is stored on your device and nothing about you specifically is recorded.

## Cookies

If you accept, Google Analytics sets two cookies on your device:

| Cookie | Purpose | Expires after |
|---|---|---|
| `_ga` | Distinguishes one anonymous visitor from another | 2 years |
| `_ga_BM44XHLBMG` | Maintains session state for Google Analytics | 2 years |

No other cookies are set by this site.

## Who I share data with

Google handles analytics under its [Privacy Policy](https://policies.google.com/privacy) and [Google Analytics terms](https://marketingplatform.google.com/about/analytics/terms/us/). The event map also requests map resources from OpenFreeMap, as described below. I do not sell data or work with advertisers.

## Event map and itinerary

Opening the event map requests styles, tiles, fonts and symbols from [OpenFreeMap](https://openfreemap.org/privacy/), using OpenMapTiles and OpenStreetMap data. The provider receives your IP address and browser referrer. Map resources use normal browser caching. The basemap follows your browser’s light or dark appearance preference. Local file previews do not request public map resources.

Itinerary drafts are saved in this browser’s local storage. Shared links contain the ordered visits and filters you choose, with venue details; anyone with the link can read them. No account or location permission is required. The explorer does not load analytics or send itinerary fragments or directions URLs to analytics.

Opening a directions link sends its venue addresses to Google Maps. The site never adds your personal starting location to that link. Clear the itinerary or your browser’s site data to remove a locally saved draft.

## Venue suggestions

When you send a venue suggestion, the form sends the venue name, website, notes, and any email address you provide to Formspree so I can review your suggestion. Email is optional and lets me follow up about the venue. The form connects to Formspree only when you submit it.

## Your rights

Wherever you live, you can:

- **Change your mind** — click “Manage cookie preferences” in the footer of any page to re-show the consent banner and choose differently.
- **Opt out of Google Analytics globally** by installing the [Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on](https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout).
- **Browse in private/incognito mode**, which prevents the cookies from persisting between sessions.

If you’re in the EU, UK, or California, you also have specific rights under GDPR / UK GDPR / CPRA — including the right to ask what data has been collected about you and the right to ask for it to be deleted. If you have questions or want to make a formal request, please [file a GitHub Issue](https://github.com/SteveBronder/nyc_play_calendar/issues) on this site’s source-code repository — I monitor that and will respond there. Please do not include personal information in a public issue.

## Changes to this policy

If anything material changes — for example, if I ever add a new tracking tool or a third-party integration — I’ll update this page and bump the “Last updated” date at the top.

## Contact
