This workshop approaches anatomic drawing via practicing from the subconscious. It experiments with both visual and audio cues from sound and music to diagrams, stencil typography, and graphic stylizations from Leonardo da Vinci to chaos theory. It borrows from the connection of automatic writing to Kandinsky, tango to cubists, jazz to expressionism, and hip-hop to graffiti. Please feel free to bring supplies (pencils and markers) that you feel comfortable drawing with. About the Instructor Andrew Castrucci has lived and worked on the Lower East Side of Manhattan since 1984. His work encompasses visual art and activism. His solo exhibitions include Bullet Space (1990, 1996, 2001, 2002), an abandoned tenement building he helped convert into a liveable (and eventually legal) space; “Works” at Tribes, New York (2002); and “Empire State” at Generous Miracles, New York (2001). His group exhibitions include “American Visions” at the Whitney Museum (2000). His work is in the collections of the MoMA, The Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Brooklyn Museum in New York; Stedelijk Museum; Victoria & Albert Museum; State Museum of Berlin. Materials Required: Basic drawing materials are supplied, guests are encouraged to bring any materials that they're comfortable with. This class features a nude model, so we ask that all guests are 18+
