A funny and heartbreaking play about love, loss, and discovering what we're really holding onto. **Synopsis:** When Mackenzie receives an eviction notice just months after the end of a four-year relationship, she has 72 hours to pack up the apartment where she built a life she thought would last forever. As the hours slip away, packing up her home becomes something much bigger than moving on. What begins as an impossible goodbye to a place slowly reveals itself to be something much deeper, forcing Mackenzie to confront the memories, grief, and unanswered questions she's spent months trying to outrun. Over three days, and one very talkative inner monologue, she begins sorting through boxes, memories, and the impossible question of what happens to all the love that no longer has somewhere to go. **Alicia Becker** (Director) is a multifaceted creative having spent most of her life in entertainment. After moving to LA she focused on working with artists and musicians while continuing to produce and direct. She now splits her time between London, New York and Los Angeles, directing music videos and curating live performances and tours for music artists. Alicia is overjoyed to be returning to theater and collaborating with Mallory on this play. **Mallory Rose Diekmann** (Mackenzie) is a playwright, screenwriter, actor, and filmmaker originally from Saint Paul, Minnesota. She is a graduate of Kansas State University and an Irene Ryan Award nominee for excellence in acting. Her work spans stage and screen, including roles in NBC's Good Girls, Perfect (pilot), and Violated (short). In 2020, she wrote, produced, and starred in Off Limits, a short film exploring the rideshare experience as a young woman, before making her directorial debut with Nothing Feels Real. 3 Days Notice, which premiered to a sold-out audience in New York, marks her playwriting debut. ## Carnegie Science Spooky Social: Planet X, Killer Asteroids & Other Things Lurking in Space

- Price: $20 advance, $25 door
- Tickets and info: https://www.caveat.nyc/event/carnegie-science-spooky-social-planet-x-killer-asteroids-other-things-lurking-in-space-2026-10-29

Join us for a night of science-themed fun and games at Caveat right before Halloween! Carnegie Science, one of the world’s most renowned scientific research institutions, will host a social on Thursday, October 29, at Caveat NYC on the Lower East Side. But not just any social...a slightly spooky social. Something is out there. Several somethings, actually, and Carnegie Science astronomer Scott Sheppard has spent his career finding them. Sheppard hunts the darkest edges of our Solar System. (He was also a Jeopardy question once, which we will absolutely be bringing up.) Four times over, he's re-defined the fringes of our home system by finding its most distant recorded objects, including Farout, Farfarout, and a Halloween discovery nicknamed The Goblin. He's also found dozens of moons around Saturn, Jupiter, and even a few around Neptune and Uranus. Plus, he's one of the world's leading hunters of "planet-killer" asteroids. Join us at Caveat for a slightly spooky evening of cosmic mysteries: Is a hidden Planet X warping the orbits of everything past Pluto? How worried should you actually be about asteroids hiding in the Sun's glare? What else is drifting around out there in the dark? Sheppard will tell all, we'll play trivia, people will show off their costumes, and then things will get social. The program brings together science, comedy, storytelling, and public engagement in a fun, informal atmosphere designed to spark curiosity and build a nerdy community. **THE NIGHT INCLUDES:** • A fun, Solar System-spanning talk from astronomer Dr. Scott Sheppard • Solar System trivia (grab your friends, win prizes) • A costume contest of course! Spooky, spacey, nerdy, or plain inexplicable, all welcome (Participation optional!) • Q&A with Scott and Carnegie Science President John Mulcahey • A social hour after the show with drinks and an immense amount of space-themed candy Whether you are a science enthusiast or just looking for a good time, this event is perfect for anyone who enjoys a mix of learning and laughter. Don't miss out on this opportunity to socialize, have fun, and maybe even take home some cool science-themed gifts. See you there! *Participation in the costume contest is voluntary—spectating is just as fun. **About Carnegie Science:** Carnegie Science is an independent, non-profit 501 (c) (3) research institution dedicated to empowering world-class investigators to pursue the biggest questions of our time, driving discoveries that transform our understanding of life, planets, and the broader universe. This is the third Carnegie Science Social, our ongoing quest to get the nerdiest New Yorkers together in a room to geek out about science. - Tickets and info: https://www.caveat.nyc/event/facts-machine-science-comedy-trivia-2026-11-19

Facts Machine is a science comedy show (and science trivia showdown) by and for people who are curious about everything – but especially the things that make them laugh! Scientists by day and pub trivia hosts by night, Em, Noah, and Rob leverage their scientific curiosity and delight in obscure minutiae to bring you a show that explores life’s silliest, most unexpected, and outright awe-inspiring stories. (And puns. So many puns.). We’ll be joined by guest scientists, comedians, storytellers, and more as we share the fascinating stories behind our favorite facts, conduct scientific experiments (i.e. play drinking games), and conclude with a pub-style trivia quiz “loosely inspired” by that show’s theme. **Performer Bios:** **Em Costa (she/her)** is a cell biologist who, until recently, spent a lot of time researching how changes in gene expression alter the course of lung cancer. Nowadays, she thinks less about molecular science and more about civic science--building programming and scholarship about science communication and public engagement at RockEDU Science Outreach and working towards a future where all people can shape and benefit from science. When she’s not doing that (or Facts Machine-ing, of course), you can find her exploring NYC’s green spaces, finagling science magic in DnD, or littering every place she inhabits with bodega flower arrangements. (Instagram/TikTok/Bluesky: @_emcosta) **Noah Guiberson (he/him)** is a neuroscientist who studies how brain cells try (and sometimes fail) to communicate with each other. When he’s not pipetting, he co-hosts Facts Machine – a science comedy show (and science trivia showdown) by and for people who are curious about everything, but especially the things that make them laugh! (Instagram/TikTok/Bluesky: @ArksAndSciences) **Rob Frawley (he/him)** is a long-time trivia host who did research in orthopedics and cell biology on the side (i.e. for a living). Rob now works with BioBus Inc. delivering science to schools all over New York City with a bus full of microscopes, amazing samples, and funny games. Rob spends the rest of his time swimming and waiting for it to be Pi Day. (Instagram: @SweatervestSci)

- Price: $20 advance, $25 door
- Tickets and info: https://www.caveat.nyc/event/comedians-interview-experts-talking-with-dolphins-with-brian-furey-and-diana-reiss-2026-12-13

This show is exactly what it says. Every week one of your favorite comedians interviews an expert on a topic they've always wanted to know more about. Every Sunday come hear the funniest interviews about neuroscience, astrophysics, mental health, and more! Have you ever wondered: if animals could talk, what would they say? And whether or not this question is actually answerable by science? This week Brian Furey interviews Diana Reiss about animal cognition and Reiss's "conversations" with dolphins using an interactive underwater keyboard. **Brian Furey** is an actor and comedian best known for his characters in the Grand Theft Auto games and for his Museum Tours series where he improvises voiceovers of classical paintings for over a million followers across platforms. He is also a principle performer on And Scene and creator of New York’s longest running conservation themed comedy show, Drunk Planet Earth. Follow him at @morathanenough and @drunkplanetearth. **Dr. Diana Reiss** is a marine mammal scientist and cognitive psychologist. She is a professor in the Psychology Department at Hunter College, City University of New York (CUNY) and the Graduate Center (CUNY) and the past Director of Hunter’s Animal Behavior and Conservation Graduate program. Dr. Reiss received a PhD in 1983 in Speech and Communication Sciences from Temple University and had additional graduate training in Physiological Acoustics and Animal Behavior at the Laboratoire de Physiologie Acoustique, Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes, Centre National de la Recherche, CNRZ/INRA, Jouy-en-Josas, France. Her career included being the founder and Director of the dolphin research program at Marine World Africa USA, the Osborn Laboratories of Marine Science at the New York Aquarium of the Wildlife Conservation Society, and the National Aquarium. Her research focuses on dolphin cognition and communication and the evolution of intelligence and she conducts research with dolphins in the field and aquaria to provide a rich perspective on their abilities. She pioneered the use of an interactive underwater keyboard system with dolphins that afforded them choice and control and enabled the investigation of their spontaneous vocal learning abilities. Reiss and her colleagues have done groundbreaking studies demonstrating that bottlenose dolphins, Asian elephants and beluga whales possess the advanced cognitive ability for mirror self-recognition previously considered unique to humans and great apes. She is currently also conducting research into the cognitive and communicative world of cephalopods in collaboration with Dr. Marcelo Magnasco (The Rockefeller University) and Dr. Brenda McCowan (UC Davis) on dolphin cognition and communication at The Roatan Institute for Marine Sciences in Roatan, Honduras. Dr. Reiss served as a member and then an advisor to of the AZA’s Animal Welfare Committee and has worked with AZA’s Conservation and Governmental Affairs directors on marine mammal policy issues. She also served as a science advisor for the California Marine Mammal Rescue Center and her professional efforts also included the rescue and rehabilitation of stranded marine mammals including the rescue of Humphrey, the Humpback whale that wandered into the San Francisco Bay area in1985. As a member of the rescue team, Dr. Reiss worked with NOAA and NMFS and she conducted he successful acoustic playback operation that helped lead the whale back out into the open ocean. Dr. Reiss is a co-founder and Trustee, with Peter Gabriel, Vint Cerf, and Neil Gershenfeld, of the Interspecies Internet, a think-tank to accelerate the understanding of animal and interspecies communication. Reiss applies her research to advocating for global protection for cetaceans. Her work includes past efforts other scientists that led to dolphin-safe tuna labels. Dr. Reiss’s work has been published in numerous international and national journals, science magazines, television programs, and newspaper articles. In her book The Dolphin in the Mirror, released in 2011, she shares her personal and professional experiences with what she calls “magnificent minds in the water.” Hosted by **Brielle DeMirjian**

## The Ocean Hates You! with Forrest Shaw

- Price: $20 advance, $25 door
- Tickets and info: https://www.caveat.nyc/event/the-ocean-hates-you-with-forrest-shaw-2027-01-09

Former marine biologist turned comedian Forrest Shaw gives a voice to the ocean and trust me, it has some things to say. The Ocean Hates You! is a live science-comedy show. This isn't a lecture with a few jokes. It's a stand-up comedy show built on real science that makes complex environmental issues funny, accessible, and memorable. The show dives into pollution, overfishing, climate change, plastic, and all the many ways humans have managed to trash the most important ecosystem on Earth. Through a mix of stand-up, real science, and a healthy dose of dark humor, Forrest breaks down how we got here and why the ocean has every right to be annoyed. But it's not all doom. The show also celebrates the incredible life still thriving beneath the waves and the practical actions people and communities can take to protect it. Audience participation starts the moment the show begins with live trivia and other surprises woven throughout the night. You'll laugh, learn something new, and leave with a greater appreciation for the ocean, even if it isn't our biggest fan. Forrest Shaw spent more than a decade as a marine and environmental biologist in Florida, working for Miami-Dade County, where he led the Manatee Protection Program and managed large water quality and habitat monitoring projects. His work included seagrass, coral reef, and sea turtle research, and collaborations with state and federal agencies on coastal ecosystem studies. As a comedian, Forrest has appeared at Netflix Is A Joke Fest, Just For Laughs Montreal, and Moontower Comedy Festival. He's been featured on Conan, Live at Gotham, and Jim Jefferies and Friends, and his debut special Poor Decisions is available on Amazon.
