Hi — I’m Steve Bronder, and I run this site as a personal project. It lists what is on at New York’s small theaters, jazz clubs and art galleries, the rooms that are too small or too busy to show up on the big ticketing sites. The listings have been at bronder.nyc since May 2026; the code behind them dates from August 2025.
What it covers
| Section | Venues with a page | With something on | Upcoming listings |
|---|---|---|---|
| Theater and Readings | 53 | 45 | 652 productions |
| Jazz | 23 | 23 | 837 engagements |
| Galleries | 596 | 400 | 674 exhibitions |
Every venue has a page of its own, every show has a page of its own, and each section has a tonight and a this weekend page. Counts are from the last build.
How the listings are collected
Each night a script visits every venue’s own website and reads its calendar — the venue’s page, not a ticket aggregator’s — and writes what it finds to one file per venue. The site is rebuilt from those files Nov 05, 2026 at 05:59 PM.
- Show titles, descriptions and images are the venue’s own words and art, linked back to the venue’s page as the source of truth. Showtimes and prices can change after they are read.
- If a venue’s site cannot be read one night, its last good listings stay up and the rest of the site publishes; nothing is invented to fill a gap.
- A show leaves the site when its last listed date passes; an exhibition when its closing date does.
- There are no ratings, rankings or sponsored placements on the listings pages. The order is by date.
What the site collects about you is a shorter story, told on the privacy page.
The curated part
Once a week I pick a handful of shows and write about them in the New York City Small Stages newsletter. That is the hand-written layer on top of the listings; the listings themselves are not edited for taste.
Corrections
If a listing is wrong — a cancelled show still up, a wrong time, a wrong room — tell me and I will fix it or fix the script that read it. Please include the page’s address, the show, what is wrong, and a link to the venue’s own page showing the right information.
Email fixes@varkara.com.
If you run a venue and want a listing changed or removed, the same route works.
Reuse
The listings are published under a Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 licence: quote or republish them with credit to bronder.nyc, unaltered. Every page also has a Markdown version at its address plus .md, and llms.txt indexes them.
