1 date listedSelenite derives its name from Selene, the ancient lunar deity, whose name is itself rooted in the Greek word for light. This relationship between mineral and illumination subtly underlies a new solo presentation by Rosalind Tallmadge, in which the material's natural translucency becomes the foundation for an expansive study of surface, atmosphere, and perception. A site-specific floor installation of selenite fragments forms the exhibition's focal point, surrounded by works of layered selenite on organza silk, held within translucent frames. Together, they establish an environment of modulated light and mineral textures, where surface and depth enter into a fluid relationship as the stone gathers, diffuses, and transforms light.
