Drawing from the rich rhythmic traditions of Benin and the language of contemporary jazz, he creates music that explores identity, heritage, and cultural connection. A graduate of the City College of New York's Jazz Performance program, Joey has performed at renowned venues including the Apollo Theater, Lincoln Center, Kings Theatre, and SummerStage. His debut album, Orisun meaning "origin" blends African rhythms, jazz improvisation, and modern influences, featuring acclaimed artists including Lionel Loueke and Mike Stern. Through his music, Joey builds a bridge between African traditions and contemporary jazz, sharing stories of resilience, spirituality, and belonging.
