Numbers can illuminate truth, but they can also mislead, distract, or confuse when interpreted carelessly. The data never “speak for themselves”; we are the ones who give them a voice. In this engaging lecture, Dr. Pascal Wallisch will unpack the most common ways statistical reasoning goes wrong—both in everyday life and in professional analysis. You’ll learn how and why these errors happen, how to spot them, and what you can do to avoid being fooled by bad stats, seductive graphs, or oversimplified headlines. Dr. Wallisch is Clinical Professor of Data Science, Psychology, and Neuroscience at NYU Arts & Science, and the most decorated educator at NYU. His many honors include a Distinguished Teaching Award, two Golden Dozen Awards, a TeachTech Award, and five Teaching Innovation Awards. Come sharpen your thinking, challenge your assumptions, and leave better equipped to make sense of the numbers shaping our world. Get a drink, connect, and learn at Lectures on Tap! 🙌 Agenda 6:30 PM – Doors open: find a seat (open seating!), order food & drinks, and expect a bar line—arriving early is key. 6:55 PM – Host introduction 7:00 PM – Lecture begins 7:45 PM – Audience Q&A 8:00 PM – Have 1:1 time with the speaker, mingle with fellow guests, and order another round 8:30 PM – Wrap up.
